Proposal: Target Audience

It is essential that we pick a target audience that is appropriate to out film, if the wrong audience is targeted, the chance of the film being unsuccessful increases dramatically. That is why a large amount of time went into our group discussing who would be the most suitable audience for our film.

Core Audience:

British Females, aged 15- 21 years old
-London Setting
15-21 year old, British Females
-London Accents
-Relatable Characters
-Relatable Events
Preferred Genres:
- Rom-Com
-Comedy
-Romance
-Tragedy
-Romantic Drama
Ways they consume films:
-Online Streaming I.e. Netflix, Blink box etc…
-DVD (Watch at home)
-In the Cinema (Not the most common)
-Illegal Download i.e. UTorrent
-Watching them on T.V. channels

Generally they will watch films which, for them are extremely relatable; where they can identify with characters and use their story-lines as a way of helping them deal with any problems they may have themselves. Films with a political or serious message tend not to appeal to this particular group. As well as documentaries and films with a complex nature.

Secondary Audiences:
British Male 15-21 years old
Appeals:
-          Able to watch with girlfriend
-          Good-looking actresses
-          Relatable situations
Parents of teens (40+)
Appeals:
- Since story line includes teenagers overcoming challenging circumstances
-Can be used as a guide showing possible ways to handle these events, should they arise in their lives.
-Partial insight into a teenager’s life, depicting how fragile a teenager can be at the best of times.

Our main focus is on the UK Market; however other potential markets could include the USA and Europe. “Silver Linings Playbook” has very similar themes and story lines to our piece, taking $132m in the USA; it is an American made film and so has been produced in a very different style to the way our UK Independent film would be made. The similarities in the universal theme of coming to terms with death, makes our film of interest and relevance to overseas markets.
